Vorige week was het Dutch Design week in Eindhoven en eigenlijk behoeft dat weinig uitleg voor al mijn Nederlandse lezers, maar voor wie het nog niet weet; het is DE week van het jaar waarin allerlei soorten ontwerpers (ruimtelijk, grafisch, interieur, noem maar op!) hun werk laten zien aan de wereld. Eigenlijk is er te veel om in één dag te kunnen bekijken, maar het is ons gelukt zoveel mogelijk te absorberen in die tijd. Dit zijn mijn highlights:

Last week, it was Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven (The Netherlands). It is THE week of the year in which all kinds of designers (spatial, graphic, interior, you name it!) show their work to the world. There’s actually too much design to cover in just one day, but me and my bestie managed to see a lot. Here are my highlights:

Hoewel je zou kunnen denken dat ik nogal vroeg ben met het uitbrengen van mijn kerstkaart, dan kan ik je vertellen dat de tijd vliegt (naar mijn idee) en kerst 2013 weer voorbij is voor we het door hebben. Daarnaast leek het mij leuk deze kaart ook te kunnen verkopen op de Design Gipfel in Essen en om dat te kunnen doen moest ik wel op tijd aan de slag.
Dit jaar maakte ik er een kerst-feestje van. De kaart is gedrukt op 300 grams karton met een mat-laminaat aan de voorkant. Hij is 14,8 x 14,8 cm groot en is vanaf nu te koop in mijn Etsy shop!

Although you might think I’m a little early releasing my Christmas greeting card, my experience is that time has a tendency of flying by so fast that this year’s Christmas will be over before we know it. Also, I thought it would be nice to be selling this postcard on this november’s Design Gipfel in Essen, so I had to be a little early this year in order to do so.
I hosted an early Christmas-party and this card is a snap-shot of it ;). The card is printed on a nice natural cardboard and has a matte laminate on the front. It measures 14,8 x 14,8 cm and is now for sale in my Etsy shop!

 

Toen we een paar weken geleden in Delft waren voor ‘Engaged’ zorgden mijn lief en ik dat we op tijd vertrokken, zodat we de binnenstad van Delft nog even onveilig konden maken voor het tijd was om naar de oude fabriek af te reizen waar Engaged plaatsvond.

En tot mijn grote verrassing botste ik zomaar tegen de interieur-winkel van Femke aan. Ik volg haar blog al een tijdje, maar ik had er even niet meer aan gedacht dat zij een eigen winkeltje heeft in Delft (ik wist dit wel, maar ik had er niet meer bij stilgestaan op het moment dat we afreisden naar Delft) totdat ik er tegenaan liep na een heerlijke lunch bij ‘Het Postkantoor’, een horeca-gelegenheid die pal tegenover de Femkeido interieurwinkel zit.

In de winkel van Femke zijn spullen te koop van veel bijzondere merken zoals Donna Wilson en de Nederlandse Marloes Kroeze.
Voor wie voorlopig niet in de gelegenheid (of in de buurt) is om te gaan kijken; Femke heeft ook een webshop!

When we were in Delft a few weeks ago to visit the ‘Engaged’ event, we made sure we got there early so we could explore the city of Delft itself before attending the event. I had never been there before, so I sure wanted to have a good look around before disappearing into the old factory where Engaged was hosted.

And to my great surprise, I bumped into the interior shop of Femke! I’ve been following her blog for a while now, but I hadn’t thought about the fact that she had an actual shop in Delft (I knew this, though I didn’t think about it when leaving for Delft) until I saw it across from a place called ‘Het Postkantoor’ (which means ‘The Postoffice) where we had some awesome lunch!
Lots of wonderful brands are featured in this shop, like Donna Wilson and the Dutch Marloes Kroeze.

Vorige week kwamen eindelijk mijn exemplaren van ‘Work/Life 3; The Uppercase Directory of Illustration’ binnen! Ik kon mezelf er nog net van weerhouden de postbode te zoenen om hem te bedanken voor het bezorgen van de boeken.

Anyway, de boeken zijn dus binnen en ze zijn zo mooi! Alles aan deze uitgave is perfect; hoe het boek eruit ziet, hoe het voelt en hoe het ruikt (ja, ik heb altijd al een zwak gehad voor de geur van vers drukwerk).
En dan is er natuurlijk mijn pagina. Mijn pagina. Elke keer als ik in dit boek blader kan ik gewoon niet geloven dat ik er in sta! Ja, dat ben ik. Dat is mijn atelier. Dat is mijn illustratie. Bizar.

In een uitgave als deze staan en op papier omringd worden door 99 andere super-getalenteerde illustratoren (waaronder Ashley Percival, een van mijn all-time helden), is een ontzettende eer.
Zoals ik al eerder heb gezegd is dit prachtige boek uitgegeven door het Canadese Uppercase Magazine. Het boek is te koop in de Uppercase Webshop.

Last week, my copies of ‘Work/Life 3; The Uppercase Directory of Illustration’ finally came in! I could only just withhold myself from kissing the mailman to thank him for this delivery.

Anyway, the books came in and they are so beautiful! I love everything about it, the look, the feel, even the smell (yes, I’ve always had a soft spot for the smell of freshly printed matters). 

And then; my page. Everytime I peek in this book I just can’t believe that it’s actually me on that page. And my illustration. And my studio.
Being featured in a publication like this and being surrounded on paper by 99 other super-talented illustrators from around the globe (I’m in this book together with my all-time hero Ashley Percival!) is such an honor.
As I have said before, this directory of illustration has been published by the lovely Uppercase Magazine. It is for sale in the Uppercase Webshop.

 

Toen de geweldige Judith van ‘Velvetine fotografie en inspiratie’ (die mij en John in april heeft gefotografeerd tussen de alpaca’s) aankondigde dat ze een trouw-event zou gaan organiseren wist ik; daar moet ik bij zijn! Een hele dag in de fijne bohemian sfeer die zij met haar Velvetine al tijden ademt moet een heerlijke beleving zijn. Daarbij komt dat ik zelf met mijn illustraties graag de feest- en trouwkant op wil (zoals je eerder kon lezen in het artikel over mijn toekomst als afgestudeerd illustrator), dus ik kon dit event ook nog als werkveld-onderzoek-‘smoes’ gebruiken.

Vorige week was het zover. John en ik reisden af naar Lijm&Cultuur in Delft, waar het event gehouden werd en het was geweldig! Een heleboel kleine ondernemers bij elkaar die allemaal een ding gemeen hadden; heel veel liefde voor het trouwvak en de liefde zelf. Dit is hoe een goed (alternatief) event eruit moet zien. John en ik gingen weg met een overload aan inspiratie in onze hoofden en de nodige trouw-kriebels in de onderbuikjes.

When the lovely Judith from ‘Velvetine photography and inspiration’ (who photographed me and John between a herd of alpaca’s this april) announced to be hosting a wedding-event this year I just knew I HAD to be there! Spending an entire day in the bohemian feel she has set up with her Velvetine was going to be an awesome experience. Add to that the fact that I want to be moving to the party- and wedding-field with my illustrations and there was no saying ‘no’ to attending this event.

Last saturday was the day. John and I traveled to the wonderful city Delft, where the event was held in an old factory. The vendors were just too good to be true; all small entrepreneurs with a passion for the wedding business and love itself. This is what an (alternative) event should look like. John and I left the venue in the evening, feeling slightly overwhelmed by all the inspiration, and having wedding-jitters in our bellies.

Deze eenzame lama vond ik tussen mijn cactussen.

Afgelopen week was ik op de woonbeurs in Amsterdam. Vorig jaar was ik er voor het eerst en ik kwam tot de conclusie dat je er ook je hartje kunt ophalen als je geen concrete bouw- verbouw- of verhuisplannen hebt. Vandaar dat ik ook dit jaar weer ging om gewoon inspiratie op te doen. Hier vind je een beeldende opsomming van mijn bevindingen!

This past week I went to an event called ‘Woonbeurs’ in Amsterdam. It’s an event where you can find inspiration for everything that concerns interior and living. I went to the ‘Woonbeurs’ for the first time last year, and I found that you can eat your heart out there anytime; not just when you have plans of building-, cultivating- or moving house. With that in mind, I went there again this year just for inspiration and you can find a photographic summary of my findings below!
