TGIF jongens! Ik ben meer dan klaar voor het weekend. Maar niet voordat ik mijn allernieuwste product met jullie heb gedeeld: mijn Alice in Wonderland (cup)caketoppers! Wie mij op instagram volgt heeft ze hier en daar al eens voorbij zien komen en hier heb ik er ook al eens over verteld. Maar vandaag voeg ik ze dan officieel toe aan de ‘franje familie’.

Deze (cup)cake toppers bestaan uit drie lagen papier; de onderste is gemaakt van een 160 grams silk papier, daar bovenop zit een laag glitterpapier en helemaal bovenop zit weer 160 grams silk, maar dan mét illustratie! Ze zijn verpakt in setjes van 4 stuks. Elke set bevat Alice, de Cheshire Cat, de Haas en Tweedledee & Tweedledum. Ze zijn nu verkrijgbaar in mijn Etsy shop.

TGIF you guys! I am more than ready for the weekend. But not before I’ve shared my latest and newest product with you; my Alice in Wonderland (cup)caketoppers. Those of you who have been following me on instagram might have already seen a sneak peek here and there and I shared part of the process here. Today it’s finally time to officially add them to the ‘franje family’.
These (cup)cake toppers are ready to rock your Mad Tea Party!
They are made out of three layers of paper; the bottom one is made out of cardstock, on top of that is a layer of glitter paper and the upper layer is cardstock again, but this one has one of my illustrations on it! They come in a set of four, each set containing Alice, the Cheshire Cat, the Hare and Tweedledee & Tweedledum. They are now available in my Etsy shop!

In mijn meest recente ‘5 things I’m doing right now‘ artikel hebben jullie al een sneak-peek kunnen zien van mijn nieuwe stickers. Maar vandag presenteer ik ze ‘officieel’ aan jullie. Ze maakten hun debuut op de Swan Market in Tilburg vorig weekend en ze werden erg goed ontvangen. Super leuk!
Op deze sticker staat mijn ‘allerleukste illustratie ooit’ afgebeeld (dit zijn John zijn woorden, niet de mijne overigens) van een cowboy en een indiaan die patrouilleren op hun peper- en zoutstel ‘paarden’. De afbeelding is gedrukt op transparant vinyl dat zowel binnen als buiten kan worden gebruikt. Papier, hout, metaal, glas. Je kunt het zo gek niet verzinnen of deze jongens blijven er op plakken. De sticker heeft een diameter van 9,5 centimeter en hij is verkrijgbaar in mijn Etsy shop. Alvast een heel fijn weekend!

In my last ‘5 things I’m doing right now‘ post you’ve already seen a sneak-peek of my new stickers. But here they are for real! They premiered at the Swan Market in Tilburg last weekend and I must say they have made quite the impression. Which is awesome!
This sticker features ‘my awesomest illustration ever’ (these are John’s words, not mine by the way) of two cowboys patrolling on their salt and pepper shaker ‘horses’. The image is printed on a transparent vinyl that can be used indoors as well as outdoors. Paper, wood, metal, glass. You name it; these guys will stick to it. It measures 9,5 centimeters in diameter and are now available in my Etsy shop. Happy weekend!

 

Weet je nog dat ik een tijdje geleden vertelde dat ik bezig was met het voorbereiden van nieuwe workshops? Vandaag kan ik daar meer over vertellen!
De lieve Lisa en ik hebben een middag gebrainstormd en plannen gemaakt voor een mini cursus 3D-illustratie in juni. Deze cursus bestaat uit drie lessen op drie zaterdagmiddagen in juni: 13, 20 en 27 juni om precies te zijn. Alledrie de lessen vinden plaats in Lisa’s winkel Elle Aime in Rotterdam.
In deze cursus ontwerp je je eigen ansichtkaart en ga je aan de slag met de stijl waarin ik werk; je gaat je illustraties combineren met een bestaand object. Hier maak je vervolgens een leuke setting van die je gaat fotograferen. Een paar weken na de cursus ontvang je een set van 50 van je eigen ansichtkaarten in de brievenbus!

Remember I told you a while ago that I was working on preparing some new workshops? Well today I will be sharing more about that with you!
The lovely Lisa and I have been brainstorming and we’ve set up a mini course in 3D-illustration in June. This course consists of three lessons on three saturday afternoons in June: the 13th, the 20th and the 27th. All three of these lessons will take place at Lisa’s shop Elle Aime in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
In this course you’ll be designing your own postcard and get to work with the style in which I make my illustrations; you’ll be combining your illustrations with an existing object, make a nice studio setting of it and then photograph it. A few weeks after the course, you’ll receive a set of 50 (!) of your own postcards in the mail!

De drie afzonderlijke lessen gaan er als volgt uit zien:
In de eerste les neem je een object mee. Dit is het object dat je gaat gebruiken om je ansichtkaart mee te maken. Dit object kan iets hebben dat emotionele waarde heeft, iets dat al een eeuwigheid in de familie zit of simpelweg een (vintage) object dat je mooi vindt vanwege zijn vorm, kleur of verhaal. In deze les begin je met brainstormen en schetsen (met de hulp van mij en Lisa uiteraard).
In de tweede les ga je je schetsen uitwerken tot illustraties. Aan het einde van deze les is het de bedoeling dat de illustraties klaar zijn. Deze illustraties kunnen karakters, landschappen of zelfs typografie zijn. Je kunt werken met elk gewenst materiaal. The sky is the limit!
In de derde en laatste les ga je je illustraties (en je object natuurlijk!) fotograferen in een studio setting. Lisa en ik zullen een (of meerdere, afhankelijk van het aantal inschrijvingen) kleine fotostudio bouwen en je begeleiden naar de beste manier om jouw idee op de foto te krijgen. Lisa en ik hebben allebei ervaring met het werken met een spiegelreflexcamera dus we kunnen jullie ook helpen met het technische aspect.
Na deze lessen gaan Lisa en ik aan de slag met een klein stukje nabewerking (er zullen ongetwijfeld wat plakbandjes, touwtjes of stokjes weggewerkt moeten worden) en we sturen vervolgens je kaarten naar de drukker. Dus een paar weken na de cursus ontvang je 50 stuks van je eigen kaart in de brievenbus.

The three separate lessons will look like this:
In the first lesson, you’ll bring an object. This is the object you’ll be using for your postcard and combine your illustrations with. This can be something that has emotional value, something that’s been in your family for a long time or simply an (vintage) object that you’ve always liked because of it’s shape, colour or story. In this lesson you will start sketching and brainstorming for ideas (with the help of me and Lisa of course).
In the second lesson you’ll be developing your illustrations further and finish them for the next lesson. These illustrations can be characters, landscapes or maybe even typography. You can work with any kind of material you want. The sky is the limit!
In the third and final lesson you’ll be photographing your illustrations (and object!) in a studio setting. Lisa and I will build one (or more, depending on the number of subscriptions) little photo studio and help you figure out the best way to create the image for your postcard. We both have experience with working with a DSLR so we’ll help you out with the technical aspects too.
After these lessons, Lisa and I will be doing some digital editing (there might be some tape, string, sticks or other things we’ll need to retouch) and we’ll send your cards to the printer. So a few weeks after the course, you’ll receive 50 of your own professionally printed postcards in the mail.

Wowowowow! Is het alweer maart?! Waar is de tijd gebleven?! Niet getreurd, bij het begin van een nieuwe maand hoort een photo diary van de maand ervoor dus hier vind je wat ik in februari zoal heb uitgespookt. Als je dagelijks ‘achter de schermen’ beelden wilt zien, volg me dan op instagram!

Ik begon deze maand met het kopen van deze super leuke prent van Nina Fernande. Haar ‘Pindakaasbeer’ is de bom.
I started the month off with purchasing some awesome art by the lovely Nina Fernande. Her so called ‘Peanutbutter Bear’ is da bomb.

Toen ik door mijn foto archieven aan het bladeren was (ik word soms wat nostalgisch) vond ik deze foto van mijn eerste ervaring met 3D-illustratie tijdens een workshop van Kim Welling. Ik denk dat je wel kunt zeggen dat het liefde op het eerste gezicht was.

De lente komt er eindelijk aan. De zon schijnt steeds vaker en zo deed zich afgelopen maand de perfecte dag voor om de hond eens uit te laten.
Spring is finally coming. The sun starts shining more so a perfect day for walking the dog presented itself earlier this month.

Mijn nieuwe photobooth kaarten kwamen binnen.

Ik ging een dagje naar de kunsthal met mijn twee favoriete mannen.

Deze mooie vintage typemachine-gum kwam binnen. Hij wordt onderdeel van een nieuw project.

Ik werd geloof ik nog nostalgischer want ik besloot mijn procesboeken van mijn afstuderen eens door te bladeren. Daarin vond ik onder andere deze quote.
I guess I got even a little more nostalgic because I decided to go through my art journals I used while graduating from art school. I found this quote in it: ‘Beauty is relative and that’s relatively beautiful’.

Ik ging een weekendje weg om carnaval te ontvluchten en daar vond ik een typisch Hollandse lucht in het water.
I spent a weekend away to flee the ‘carnaval’ holiday. I found the perfect Dutch sky somewhere in the water.

Ik heb veel tijd doorgebracht met confetti en papieren figuurtjes maken voor in mijn vintage ballenautomaat. Het marktseizoen komt er weer aan en ik kan me natuurlijk nergens fatsoenlijk vertonen met een half lege ballenautomaat.
I spent a lot of time making confetti and cutting little paper characters for my vintage vending machine. Market season is coming up and I can’t show up anywhere with a half full machine, right?!

Ik trakteerde mezelf op nieuwe koffie ‘equipment’. Beste koffie ooit! En ik ben nogal een koffiesnob dus dat wil wat zeggen.
Bought myself some new coffee equipment. Best coffee ever. And I’m a total coffee snob so that is saying something.

Mijn TC Feelgood Box kwam binnen! Dit is een doos vol verrassingen die helemaal gemaakt is door Super-Olga van Team Confetti. ‘Happy mail’ is een understatement.

Ik bracht een middagje in de buitenlucht door met deze jongen voor de #tcennujij instagram wedstrijd. We hebben heel veel goede gesprekken gehad en nog meer ijsjes gegeten.

En last but not least: Ik ben bezig geweest met het maken van Alice in Wonderland caketoppers. Deze afbeelding is onderdeel van de productfotografie voor mijn Etsy shop en online portfolio. Dit is misschien wel het favoriete onderdeel van mijn werk.

Zo ziet mijn leven er meestal uit. Als een achtbaan. Ik heb behoorlijk heftige ups en downs meegemaakt de afgelopen tijd en hoewel ik weet dat die onderdeel uitmaken van mijn werk en mijn leven is het soms gewoon een beetje teveel. Zoals deze afgelopen maand.
Ik begon deze maand met het opleveren van mijn deelname aan de Boekieboekie illustratiewedstrijd. Hoewel ik nooit echt heel zelfverzekerd ben over mijn werk was ik blij met wat ik had gemaakt en de dag waarop de genomineerden bekend zou worden gemaakt kon wat mij betreft niet snel genoeg komen. Maar toen die dag uiteindelijk kwam zag ik dat ik de top 20 niet gehaald had. En dat kon ik maar moeilijk loslaten. Want ik had hier ZO hard voor gewerkt en ik had er zo veel plezier aan beleefd. En toch was het niet goed genoeg. En hoewel iedereen altijd zegt dat je zoiets niet persoonlijk moet opvatten moet ik eerlijk zeggen dat ik echt geen idee heb hoe ik dat zou moeten doen. Want ik ben mijn werk.

Toen ging ik borrelen met mijn besties. Ik zat aan tafel naar iedereen te luisteren en ineens realiseerde ik me dat ik me zo ver verwijderd voelde van iedereen. Deze prachtige meiden zijn bijna allemaal bezig met huizen kopen, trouwen en/of kinderen krijgen. Of ze hebben dat al gedaan. Begrijp me niet verkeerd: ik moet er voorlopig nog niet aan denken om me voort te planten maar deze avond was nogal een ‘reality check’ voor mij. Want ik realiseerde mezelf weer eens dat ik helemaal vast zit in mijn huidige situatie. John en ik zijn allebei freelancers dus een hypotheek kunnen we wel vergeten. Daarnaast zou ik niet weten waar we het geld vandaan zouden moeten halen om binnen afzienbare tijd van te kunnen trouwen (ook niet onbelangrijk: ik ben nog niet eens gevraagd), om nog maar te zwijgen over kinderen (als we die überhaupt ooit willen hoor, daar zijn we nog niet over uit).

Volgende stop: Valentijnsdag. Ik bracht deze dag door met John, mijn moeder en mijn tante. John gaf me de liefste valentijnskaart ooit, met daarop een geciteerd gedicht waarvan ik tranen in mijn ogen kreeg. En toen kwam ik thuis (we hadden het valentijnsweekend in een vakantiepark doorgebracht) om daar nog twee valentijnskaartjes in de brievenbus te vinden. Eentje ervan was van de lieve Aline, die lezers van haar blog had opgeroepen een berichtje te sturen als ze een kaartje wilden ontvangen. Nou, na bovenstaande kon ik er wel eentje gebruiken.

En toen was het tijd voor mijn tweede gastartikel voor Team Confetti. En gelukkig is dit wel een echte ‘up’ om mijn column van deze maand mee af te sluiten. Want hoewel je nog een weekend de tijd hebt om mee te doen met de fotowedstrijd ben ik al een aantal keer van mijn stoel gevallen van de hoeveelheid deelnames. En ook van hoe leuk deze inzendingen allemaal zijn. Als de wedstrijd eenmaal is afgelopen deel ik de leukste inzendingen nog even op deze blog want geloof me; ze zijn te leuk om niet te laten zien!
Ik ben ontzettend dankbaar voor alle enthousiasme en steun die ik van jullie krijg. Of dat hem nu zit in een leuke reactie op mijn blog of een deelname aan de #tcennujij actie. Alles zorgt ervoor dat ik de ‘downs’ en vrije vallen die bij deze achtbaan horen wat beter kan hebben.

That’s what my life pretty much always looks like. A rollercoaster. I went through some heavy ups and downs lately and although I know that’s all part of the job and the life I’m living, sometimes it’s just a little too much. Like this past month.
I started this month off with submitting my work for the Boekieboekie illustration contest. Although I’m never very confident about anything that I make, I was happy with what I’d created and the date on which the nominees would be announced could not come soon enough in my opinion. But when that day came, I found out that I didn’t make it to the top 20. And that was hard to shake off. Because I had worked SO hard for this and I’d had so much fun doing it. But it still just wasn’t good enough. And although everyone says not to take things like that personally, I have to be honest and say that I really don’t know how to do that. Because I am my work and my work is me.

Then I had drinks with my besties. I was at the table listening to everyone talking and suddenly I realized that I felt worlds apart from them. Almost all of them are buying houses, getting married and having babies. Or they already have these ‘things’. Don’t get me wrong: I’m really not planning on procreating anytime soon, but this night was a major reality check for me. Because once again I realized that for now, I’m completely stuck in the situation that I’m in. Seeing as John and I are both freelancers, we can’t get a mortgage, I don’t see where we would get the money to get married anytime soon, and I’m not even going to start on having children one day (although we’re not even sure if we want to).

Next stop: Valentine’s day. I celebrated this day with John, my mother and my aunt. John gave me the sweetest valentine’s postcard ever, quoting a poem that brought tears to my eyes. And then I came home after we spent valentine’s day weekend away to find I had two more cards in the mail. One of them was from the lovely Aline, who wrote a card to every single one of her blog readers who said that needed it. Well after all of the above, I could use one.
And then it was time for my second guest post for Team Confetti. And I can honestly say that that is a real ‘upper’ to end this recap with. Because even though there’s still another weekend to participate in the illustration contest, I’m blown away by all of the submissions. You guys all have such fabulous imagination! Once the competition is closed, I will be showing the best submissions on my blog, because believe me: they’re too good to remain unseen.

I am so thankful for the enthusiasm and support I’m getting from all of you. Whether it’s a sweet blog comment or participation in the ‘#tcennujij’ contest. All of it makes the downs and freefalls this rollercoaster comes with a little easier to take.
 

Het laatste ‘5 things I’m doing right now’ artikel schreef ik alweer meer dan een maand geleden, daarom is het vandaag weer hoog tijd voor een kijkje achter de schermen. Dit is waar ik momenteel allemaal mee bezig ben:

The last ‘5 things I’m doing right now’ post dates back to over a month ago, so I thought it’s high time for another peek behind the scenes! Here’s what I’m up to right now:

1. Alice in Wonderland caketoppers.
Ik krijg zo veel leuke reacties op mijn Alice in Wonderland werk dat ik besloten heb van een aantal van deze illustraties caketoppers te maken. Wat is er nou leuker dan een Alice in Wonderland feestje? Niks dus. Ik zal ze voor het eerst verkopen op de Swan Market in Tilburg van aankomende zondag.

1. Alice in Wonderland caketoppers.
I have been getting some great responses to my Alice in Wonderland themed work so I decided to use these illustrations to make caketoppers. Because nothing beats a Mad Tea Party. They will permiere at this sunday’s Swan Market in Tilburg.

 

2. Weekplanner.
Ik loop al een eeuwigheid met het idee in mijn hoofd om een weekplanner te maken. Ik verslind dat soort planners en to-do-lists echt en ik vind het leuk er eentje te maken met mijn eigen illustraties. De afgelopen weken ben ik eindelijk begonnen met schetsen.

2. Weekly planner.
I’ve been walking around with this idea for making a weekplanner for a long time now. I literally devour weekplanners and to-do-lists and I thought it would be awesome to have one with my own illustrations, so I’ve finally started making sketches for it.

 

3. Mijn ballenautomaat vullen.
Nu mijn vintage ballenautomaat al talloze keren mee naar verschillende markten is geweest, begon hij langzaamaan een beetje leeg te raken. Dus ik ben druk bezig met het vullen van nieuwe balletjes om te zorgen dat hij er weer goedgevuld uitziet voor het nieuwe marktseizoen voor mij van start gaat.

3. Filling up my vending machine.
After going with me to countless markets during a couple of years, my vintage vending machine was starting to run low on party favors. So I’ve been very busy making new ones and stocking up my machine now that market season is starting again.

 

4. Productfotografie voor mijn nieuwe sticker.
Afgelopen week kreeg ik deze nieuwe sticker binnen, dus nu ben ik druk bezig met de productfotografie hiervan. Voor mijn Etsy shop, maar ook voor mijn online portfolio. Als alles gaat zoals gepland dan is de sticker ergens volgende week te koop en uitgebreider te zien.

4. Product-photography for my new sticker.
A new sticker is coming up very soon, so I’m shooting some product pictures for my Etsy shop and online portfolio. If everything goes as planned, they’ll be up in the shop (and on this blog) somewhere next week.

 

5. Het mooie grote lookbook.
Dit is meer een langere termijn project en het is nog erg schetsmatig allemaal maar ik werk aan een mooi (digitaal) lookbook voor potentiële opdrachtgevers en verkooppunten. Ik probeer in dit boek niet alleen mijn producten, maar ook snapshots van mijn leven en hoe deze werken tot stand komen te laten zien.

5. Big beautiful lookbook.
This is more of a long-term project and it’s still very much in draft, but I’m working on a (digital) lookbook of my work for potential clients and wholesale. I’m trying to show not only the product, but also snippets of my life and how things come to be.

 

Hier gebeuren dus een heleboel leuke dingen! Waar ben jij zoal mee bezig?
Lots of exciting things are going on around here! What are you up to these days?

Vandaag kan ik melden dat ik de eerste twee ‘designers’ markten van het seizoen heb geboekt (en ik weet vrij zeker dat er nog wel meer zullen volgen). Ik zal een kraampje hebben op de Swan Market in mijn hometown Tilburg op zondag 1 maart (de eerste Swan Market ooit in Tilburg, ik ben erg benieuwd!) en ik ben ook op Seinfestijn in Haarlem van de partij op zondag 19 april. Het lijkt me super leuk om jullie op één of beide locaties te treffen dus als je tijd hebt; kom gezellig winkelen. Tot dan!

I’m so glad to announce that I have two designer’s markets booked for the season already (I’m pretty sure more will follow later). The first one will take place in my hometown Tilburg (The Netherlands) on sunday, March 1st. This is the first ever Swan Market to be held in Tilburg so I’m very curious at how it will be!
The second one is Seinfestijn in Haarlem (The Netherlands) on sunday, April 19th. I’m soooo excited to meet some of you, so please do come by for some lovely shopping if you have time. See you there!

Weet je nog dat ik een tijdje geleden vertelde dat ik aan de slag was met illustraties voor de Boekieboekie illustratiewedstrijd? Vandaag ga ik met jullie delen wat ik daarvoor heb gemaakt!

Eerst in het kort iets over de wedstrijd zelf. Boekieboekie is een uitgeverij die een aantal keer per jaar een tijdschrift voor kinderen uitgeeft. Ieder jaar organiseert Boekieboekie een illustratiewedstrijd die expliciet bedoeld is voor studenten aan en debutanten van de kunstacademie. De wedstrijd heeft ieder jaar een ander thema en dit jaar was dit Alice in Wonderland. Tja, met zo’n thema moest ik wel meedoen natuurlijk. De winnaar van de wedstrijd wint de zogenaamde ‘stArt Award’.

Helaas heb ik de top 20 niet gehaald maar hey, ‘that’s life’. Ik ben nog steeds trots op wat ik heb gemaakt en ik deel mijn werk graag met jullie vandaag!
Participants had to make several different illustrations. For one: characters for the bract of the special Alice in Wonderland issue (still to be published). I chose to make illustrations of the Cheshire Cat and Tweedledee and Tweedledum.
Deelnemers werd gevraagd een aantal verschillende illustraties te maken. Een van de opdrachten was om karakters te illustreren voor het schutblad van het tijdschrift. Ik koos ervoor om de Cheshire Cat en Tweedledee en Tweedledum te illustreren.

Remember I told you about how I was working on illustrations for the Boekieboekie illustration contest a few weeks ago? Well, today I’ll share the work I made for that contest with you!
First a little more info on the contest itself. Boekieboekie is a publisher that issues a children’s magazine a couple of times a year. Each year, Boekieboekie writes out a contest for debuting illustrators. It’s meant especially for artschool students and graduates. The contest has a different theme each year and this year’s was Alice in Wonderland. With a theme like that, I just had to participate. The winner of the contest will win the so-called ‘stArt Award’.
Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the top 20, but hey that’s life. I’m still proud of the work I made and I’m happy to share it with you today!

 

 

 

Een andere opdracht was om illustraties te maken bij één of meerdere artikelen uit het (nog te publiceren) tijdschrift.

Then there was the assignment to create illustrations with one or more articles that will be published in the magazine.

 

 

En tot slot was er de ‘vrije opdracht’, waar je als deelnemer vrij was om wat dan ook te illustreren bij een willekeurige scène uit het Alice in Wonderland verhaal.

And then there was the ‘freestyle assignment’, where participants were free to do whatever they pleased to illustrate any scene from the Alice in Wonderland story. I chose the Mad Tea Party.

Allereerst wil ik jullie even bedanken voor jullie super leuke reacties op mijn eerste gastblog van vorige maand. Wat heb ik genoten van de complimenten en wat was het leuk om jullie vragen te beantwoorden. Olga heeft het al eerder tegen me gezegd: dat de lezers van Team Confetti de beste zijn. Ik kan bij deze zeggen dat daar geen woord over gelogen is. Bedankt!

Maar nu ter zake: vorige maand heb ik jullie dus laten zien hoe ik mijn werk als illustrator uitvoer. Maar het maken van mooie dingen is niet het enige dat ik doe. Ik creëer ook graag ervaringen. Of dat hem nu zit in de allround vormgeving en styling van een evenement (een project dat nog hoog op mijn bucketlist staat) of het organiseren van een wereldwijde lama invasie, dat doet er niet toe. Ik laat mensen graag iets beleven.

Daarom gaan jullie deze maand zelf aan de slag met ‘mijn manier van werken’. Echt? Ja, echt! Hoe dan? Nou, met een printable die ik speciaal voor Team Confetti heb gemaakt.

So last week I showed you how I do my work as an illustrator. But ‘making pretty things’ isn’t all that I do. I like to create experiences too. And that can mean anything really; from the allround styling and design of a big event (a project that’s still on my designer’s bucket list) to creating a world wide llama invasion. I like to make people experience something. And that’s why this month you’ll be getting to work with ‘my way of working’. Really? Yes, really! But how? Well, with a free printable I created especially for Team Confetti!

 

Aangezien ik de winter nu onderhand wel helemaal beu ben leek het me leuk om de lente een beetje aan te moedigen door extra lente-achtige illustraties te maken. Come on spring, don’t be shy!

Seeing as I’m pretty much done with winter I thought it would be nice to create some extra spring-ish illustrations to encourage spring to show it’s face. Come on spring, don’t be shy!

Aan de bak dus! Zo ga je te werk:
1. Print the second page (page 2) of the PDF (preferably on cardstock).
2. (Niet verplicht) Plak je printje op een stukje dun karton of dik papier voor extra stevigheid.

To work then! This is how you roll:
1. Print de tweede pagina (pagina 2) van de PDF uit (bij voorkeur op een wat dikkere papiersoort).
2. (Optional) Glue your printed illustrations onto another piece of cardstock or cardboard for exra firmness.

 

3. Knip of snijd de illustraties uit langs de stippellijn.
3. Cut out the illustrations by using scissors or a hobby knife.

 

4. (Niet verplicht) Plak de illustratie(s) op een stokje, of maak een standaardje van papier.
4. (Optional) Glue the illustrations to a stick or make a little paper backing.

 

En dan nu het allerleukste gedeelte: Ga lekker op pad met je illustratie (op een stokje) en gebruik je fantasie. Waar kan die T-rex zijn hond uitlaten? Waar zit de lama op zijn gemakje een ijsje te eten? In wat voor tuin zijn de tijger en eenhoorn aan het werk? Ik zou zeggen: verzin het lekker zelf, maar uiteraard ben ik om jullie op wat ideeën te brengen ook zelf op stap geweest. Dit is het resultaat:

And now the most fun part: Go into the outdoors with your illustrations (on a stick) and use your imagination. Where could that T-rex be walking his dog? Where is that llama enjoying it’s ice cream? In what kind of garden are the tiger and unicorn using their green thumbs? Go explore and use your imagination. But of course, I wouldn’t leave you to the task without providing you with some inspiration:

 

Ben je meer een huismus? Geen probleem, want ook je eigen huis zit boordevol leuke hoekjes! Je kunt dus ook binnenshuis op avontuur. Geen idee wat je je daarbij voor moet stellen? Don’t worry, I’ve got it covered:

Are you more of a homester? No problem, because there’s lots of indoor exploring to do as well! So go on an exploration spree inside your home. Haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about? Don’t worry, I’ve got it covered:

 

Nu hoor ik je denken: ‘dat kan ik niet’, ‘ik heb geen fantasie’, ‘en ik heb ook geen leuk huis’, ‘en geen camera’. Wrong! Want als ik het kan, dan kan jij het ook. En daarbij: alle foto’s die ik heb gemaakt ter inspiratie zijn gemaakt met mijn smartphone. Er is geen fancy camera of andere apparatuur aan te pas gekomen. Alleen mijn illustraties, wat ‘props’ die ik in huis vond (of een leuke omgeving buitenshuis) en satéprikkers en plakband. Echt, jij kunt het ook. En geloof me: you’re gonna love it!
Als je nog niet volledig overtuigd bent, dan helpt dit misschien: Als je je foto uploadt op instagram met de hashtag #TCennujij, dan maak je kans op een heus franje design verrassingspakket!

Now I can hear you thinking: ‘I can’t do that’, ‘I don’t have enough imagination’, ‘and an un-cool home’, ‘and no camera’. Wrong! Because if I can do it, you can do it too. Plus: all the photos I took to boost your inspiration are taken with my smartphone. I didn’t use a fancy camera or any equipment whatsoever. Just my illustrations, some props I found around the house (or a cute outdoorsy place), some sticks and transparent tape. Really, you can do this. And believe me: you’re gonna love it!
