Hoewel ik jullie af en toe in mijn ‘recaps’ wel vertel wat er gaande is in mijn persoonlijk leven, realiseer ik me dat er ook een heleboel dingen zijn die jullie niet van me weten. Dat beschouw ik altijd een beetje als het ‘rare’ onderdeel van het schrijven en vooral lezen van blogs; Je denkt dat je iemand kent (tenslotte lees je zijn/haar verhalen meerdere keren per week) terwijl je eigenlijk helemaal niks van ze weet. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan is wanneer je iemand voor het eerst in ‘real life’ ziet terwijl je diegene eigenlijk altijd alleen online ‘kende’. Dan blijkt die persoon ineens veel langer te zijn dan je altijd dacht of klinkt zijn of haar stem heel anders dan hoe jij je die had voorgesteld. Naar aanleiding hiervan vind ik het hoog tijd dat jullie mij eens wat beter leren kennen. Begrijp me niet verkeerd; er zijn dingen aan mij waarvan ik liever niet heb dat iemand ze weet, maar die ga ik hier natuurlijk ook niet melden. Toch vind ik het leuk om eens wat feitjes over mezelf te delen. Verspreid over twee artikelen. Hier zijn de eerste vijf:

Although I tell you about what’s going on in my personal life every now and then in my monthly recaps, I realized that there are a lot of things you guys don’t know about me. I always think that’s the weird part of reading blogs; you think you know a person when in truth you really don’t. For example when you see someone you only ‘knew’ online in real life for the first time and this person turns out to be much taller than you thought, or their voice sounds nothing like how you had imagined it. So maybe it’s time you guys get to know me a little better. Now don’t get me wrong; there are things about me that I’d rather not have anyone know, but I thought it would be nice to share some personal facts about me in two posts. So here are the first five:

1. Ik ben totaal sociaal ‘awkward’.
Ja. Niet één van mijn betere karaktereigenschappen al zeg ik het zelf. Maar daarom helaas niet minder waar. Ik heb een hekel aan netwerken en andere aangelegenheden waar ik mezelf moet presenteren. Dit kan in sommige situaties nog wel eens lastig zijn, zoals op de markten waar ik zo nu en dan sta. Hoewel ik echt kan genieten van deze dagen en van het ‘nieuwe mensen leren kennen’ in het algemeen ben ik gewoon echt heel slecht in praten over mezelf en mijn werk. Dus mocht je me eens ongemakkelijk grijnzend achter mijn kraam (of waar dan ook) vinden als iemand een compliment maakt dan weet je waar het vandaan komt. Ik kan het gewoon niet aan. Ik heb ooit eens een hele ‘recap’ gewijd aan dit onderwerp. Die vind je hier.

1. I am totally socially awkward.
Yes. Not one of my best characteristics if I may say so. But it’s true none the less. I hate network events and other things where I have to present myself. This is hard in some situations, like the markets I attend every once in a while because although I really like these events and meeting new people in general, I just really suck at talking about myself and my work. So that’s why you sometimes find me just awkwardly smiling when someone makes a compliment. I just can’t handle it. I have, in fact, written a recap about this, you can find it here.

 

2. Mijn eerste ‘celebrity crush’ was Richard Gere.
Toen ik voor het eerst de film ‘Pretty Woman’ zag toen ik nog een klein meisje was, werd ik op slag verliefd op Richard Gere. En om eerlijk te zijn vind ik het nog steeds alles behalve vervelend om hem te zien in welke film dan ook. Ik denk dat ik stiekem toen al wist dat ik op oudere mannen val. John is namelijk negen jaar ouder dan ik. Ach, je kunt er maar beter op tijd achter komen zullen we maar zeggen.

2. My first celebrity crush was Richard Gere.
When I first saw ‘Pretty Woman’ when I was a little girl I had a major crush on Richard Gere. And to be honest: I still kinda do. I guess that’s when I figured out I like older guys, since John is nine years older than me. Well, better figure it out sooner rather than later.

 

3. Ik ben allergisch voor bijna alles.
Pollen, huisstofmijt, honden, paarden, de meeste vissoorten en de meeste noten. U noemt het maar en ik heb er een allergie voor. Af en toe is dit wel balen maar ik ben er inmiddels wel aan gewend. Hoewel, in sommige situaties kan het nog wel eens ‘tricky’ zijn. Mocht ik ooit naar Japan willen afreizen en ik kom in een horecagelegenheid terecht waar de menukaart louter bestaat uit Japanse tekens dan moet ik daar helaas met een lege maag weer vertrekken. Wat als het gerecht dat ik bestel vis of noten bevat? Afijn, ik denk dat er niets anders op zit dan een spoedcursus Japans te volgen als ik ooit die kant op ga.

3. I’m allergic to basically everything.
Pollen, dust mite, dogs, horses, most fish and most nuts. You name it, I have an allergy for it. It sucks sometimes, but I’ve gotten used to it over time. Although it is really tricky in some situations. If I would ever want to travel to Japan for instance and see a menu that was completely in Japanese writing, I would not be able to order food there. What if there’s fish or nuts in the dish? Well, I guess there’s nothing else I can do but take a Japanese course before going there.

 

4. Ik ben een echt ochtendmens.
Ik houd niet zo van avonden. Ik vind ze voornamelijk heel saai. Ik ben niet bepaald een feestbeest en als ik laat opblijf dan voel ik me daar meestal schuldig over omdat ik de volgende ochtend vroeg moet opstaan om te werken (even voor de duidelijkheid; de enige die mij vertelt dat ik vroeg op moet ben ik zelf). Ik begin graag rond 8 uur ‘s morgens met werken. Soms zelfs eerder. De ochtend is voor mij het beste dagdeel om dingen voor elkaar te krijgen. Dus als ik dingen op mijn to-do-list heb staan die veel (creatieve) energie vergen, zoals schetsen of concepten bedenken, dan doe ik dat ‘s morgens. Aangezien ik lange werkdagen maak (iets dat onlosmakelijk verbonden is met het ondernemerschap als je het mij vraagt) ben ik tegen de tijd dat het avond is wel een beetje klaar met de dag. Daarom ga ik vroeg naar bed: tussen 22.00 en 22.30 lig ik erin omdat ik niet kan wachten tot het weer ochtend is. En ik weer kan werken. Ha. Misschien ben ik ook stiekem wel een workaholic.

4. I’m a total morning person.
I don’t like evenings very much. I think they are boring. I’m not much of a party animal and when I’m up late I usually feel guilty about it, because I have to get up early the next morning to work (oh and just to be clear; no-one but myself tells me that I have to get up early). I like to start work at around 8 in the morning or sometimes even earlier. The morning is the best part of the day for me to get things done. So if I have things on my to-do-list that require lots of (creative) energy like thinking up a concept or sketching, I do that in the morning. Since I work long days (yes, that comes with being an entrepreneur I guess) I’m pretty much done with the day when the evening comes around. That’s why I go to bed early: somewhere between 10 and 10.30 pm because I can’t wait ’till it’s morning again. And start work. Ha. I might be a workaholic too.

 

5. Ik ben Mevrouw Netjes.
Netjes is mijn ‘middlename’. Ik heb een hekel aan rommel. En aan vieze dingen. Ik maak mijn huis/atelier elk weekend helemaal schoon en als ik daar wegens tijdgebrek niet aan toe kom dan word ik chagrijnig. Over het algemeen vind ik dingen vrij snel vies. Af en toe denk ik zelfs dat ik wel eens een lichte vorm van smetvrees zou kunnen hebben. Mogelijkerwijs. Oh en dan nog iets: rommel is mij echt een doorn in het oog. Ik kan er simpelweg niet tegen. Als ik thuis kom van een markt of vakantie dan moet ik mijn koffer danwel markt-spullen meteen opruimen. Het maakt niet uit hoe laat het is; ik kan simpelweg niet omgaan met rondslingerende spullen.

5. I am Little Miss Neatfreak.
Neat is my middlename. I hate messes. I hate dirty things. I clean my house/office every weekend en when I don’t get around to doing it due to not having the time for it I get cranky. I have a tendency of considering things to be dirty raher quickly. I might even have a mild form of hosophobia. Also, messes are an absolute eyesore to me. I just can’t stand them. When I get home from a market or vacation, I have to clean out my suitcase or clean up my market-stuff the minute I come home. No matter what the time. I simply can’t handle stuff lying around.

Weet je nog dat ik een tijdje geleden vertelde dat ik druk bezig was met een Groot Project? Nou, vandaag kan ik dit project eindelijk met jullie delen!
Een paar maanden geleden nam Elke contact met me op. Elke werkt bij een Belgisch bedrijf dat Mobiel21 heet. Mobiel21 wil mensen bewust maken van de manier waarop zij reizen en hoe ze die manier van reizen milieuvriendelijker en veiliger kunnen maken.

Deze zomer en dit najaar lanceert Mobiel21 een verkeersspel voor kinderen op de basisschool. Dit spel heet ‘The Traffic Snake Game’ en het wordt verspreid over heel de Europese Unie ingezet om de manier waarop kinderen van huis naar school reizen veiliger en milieuvriendelijker te maken. Om dit spel te introduceren bij scholen, docenten, leerlingen en sponsoren vroeg Elke me of ik een animatie wilde maken. En dat deed ik.

Zonder er verder omheen te draaien presenteer ik jullie de film die door heel Europa zal reizen (ha!) en die hopelijk een steentje zal bijdragen aan het milieu en de veiligheid van schoolkinderen. Houd dit blog in de gaten, want volgende week deel ik een ‘making of’ van dit project met jullie!

Remember I told you a while ago that I was working on a Big Project? Well, today I can finally share it with you!
A few months ago, the lovely Elke from the Belgian company ‘Mobiel 21‘ contacted me. Mobiel21 is a company that is committed to making people aware of the ways in which they travel and how they can make their travel modes more sustainable. For the environment as well as for their own safety.
This summer and fall, Mobiel21 will issue a traffic-game for children in middleschool. This game is called ‘The Traffic Snake Game’ and it will be released through all of the European Union. This game was designed to make home to school trips for children more sustainable and to make the school a safer environment. To introduce this game to schools, teachers, pupils and sponsors, Elke asked me to create an animation. And so I did.

Without further ado, above you can view the final movie that will travel (ha!) through all of Europe and that will hopefully help improve the environment and the safety of school children. Be sure to keep checking back, because I will be sharing a ‘making of’ of this movie next week!

Nu ons vertrek naar Amerika nog maar een paar dagen van ons verwijderd is wil ik jullie even laten weten wat er precies gaat gebeuren op dit blog en in de rest van mijn online imperium (haha!) terwijl ik weg ben.

Blog: ‘Business as usual’.
Ik heb de afgelopen weken heel hard gewerkt om ervoor te zorgen dat mijn blog gewoon blijft ‘draaien’ terwijl ik weg ben. Ik heb blog-artikelen van tevoren ingepland (dus je kunt uitgaan van de gebruikelijke (op zijn minst) twee tot drie artikelen per week), maar ik heb ook gezorgd voor ruimte in ons reisschema, zodat ik ook ter plekke nog wat kan bloggen als ik dat wil. Als ik dat wil, ja. Want ik heb voornamelijk artikelen ingepland omdat deze reis in de eerste plaats een vakantie is. Ik heb echt even een pauze nodig en ik wil niet tijdens mijn vakantie gaan stressen over het feit ‘dat ik ook nog moet bloggen’. Ontspanning en rust in het hoofd, jongens. Daar gaat het om tijdens vakantie (of tenminste, dat zegt iedereen altijd).

Shop: Gesloten.
Mijn Etsy shop zal gesloten zijn van 5 juli tot 11 augustus. Dus als je al een tijdje zat te azen op iets, dan is dit je kans om het te kopen voor de ‘zomersluiting’.

Social Media: Hell yeah!
Als het aan mij ligt dan zal ik zoveel als ik kan en als ik wil online zijn op mijn social media kanalen. Ik heb geen ‘social-media-detox’ gepland, dus ik probeer mijn instagram up to date te houden met leuke vakantiekiekjes (oh, het woord ‘kiekjes’) en mijn lama invasie natuurlijk. Hetzelfde geldt voor twitter en facebook, al is het maar om de bezorgde ouders gerust te stellen (hè, moeder!). Dikke MAAR: dit alles is wel afhankelijk van waar ik een internetverbinding heb en wat de staat van die verbinding is. Maar als je zo veel mogelijk up to date wil blijven, zorg dan dat je me op die netwerken volgt.

Nu rest mij alleen nog te zeggen: ‘So long, folks’, ‘See you later, Alligator’. Ik ga even de reis van mijn leven maken!

Now that ‘the big leave for the USA’ is only days away, I want to inform you about what exactly will be happening here on this blog and to the rest of my online empire (haha!) while I’m away.

Blog: Business as usual.
I’ve been working VERY hard these past weeks to make sure that my blog will be running as usual while I’m away. I’ve been planning posts ahead of time, but I also made sure that I have some time scheduled in the US to blog ‘live’ from where I am. So there will be (at least) two to three blogposts online each week, like you’re used to. I have been planning posts ahead of time, because above all: this roadtrip will be a vacation for me. ‘Cause, let’s face it, I need a break and I don’t want to stress out during my vacation because ‘I have to blog’. Relaxing and piece of mind, folks. That’s what vacation is all about (at least, that’s what they all say).

Shop: Closed.
My Etsy shop will be closed from July 5th until August 11th. So if you were thinking about making a purchase, this is the time to do it.

Social Media: Hell yeah!
As far as I’m concerned, I will be online on social media as much as I can and as much as I want to. I’m not planning on having a social-media-detox of any kind, so I’ll try keeping my instagram feed updated with vacation-photo’s and my llama invasion of course! (even if it was just to assure the family that we’re still alive, right mom?!). Same goes for twitter and facebook. However; this depends on where I will have an internet connection and the state of said connection. But if you want to stay up to date as much as possible, be sure to follow me on these networks.

Ik had gedacht dat ik nu zo ongeveer wel precies zou weten hoe mijn leven eruit zou moeten zien en dat ik genoeg illustratie-opdrachten zou hebben om van te kunnen leven. Hoewel ik geen echte bijbaan heb en voldoende projecten omhanden heb zit ik financieel nog steeds krap. En ik begin denk ik maar niet over hoe mijn leven eruit zou moeten zien want als ik eerlijk ben heb ik nog geen idee. Toen dit eerste jaar als net-afgestudeerde-illustrator begon dacht ik dat ik alle tijd van de wereld had. Nu dat eerste jaar voorbij is denk ik dat er nog wel één nodig heb. Of misschien wel twee.

Ik had nooit gedacht dat ik dit zou zeggen, maar de afgelopen weken denk ik veel terug aan de tijd dat ik nog aan mijn afstudeerprojecten werkte. Toentertijd kon ik niet wachten tot ik er klaar mee was; ik kon niet wachten om mijn carrière te beginnen. Nu ik terugkijk merk ik dat ik best een beetje nostalgisch ben naar het hele afstudeerproces. Ik mis de ‘field-trips’ die ik met John maakte om dingen te fotograferen voor mijn Adolf project. Ik mis het Textiellab in het Textielmuseum, waar ik illustraties voor mijn Once Upon a Thing project liet borduren.

Maar bovenal mis ik de zorgeloosheid. Begrijp me niet verkeerd: tijdens mijn afstuderen heb ik stress-niveaus ervaren die daarna niet meer geëvenaard zijn (ik heb zelfs, zonder gein, behoorlijke hoeveelheden haar verloren door de stress), maar ik had nog steeds de veilige haven die kunstacademie heet. Ik had mijn studiefinanciering, ik wist wat ik moest doen om mijn afstudeerprojecten af te krijgen en ik had een heel leven als illustrator voor me liggen.

Maar de waarheid is dat dat leven soms best een beetje eng kan zijn. Het is een leven van (financiële) onzekerheden, van niet altijd weten waar ik precies heen ga (hoewel mijn doelen glashelder zijn voor mij) of hoe mijn toekomst eruit gaat zien.

Maar dit leven is er vooral één van vrijheid. Van doen wat ik het liefste doe. En jeetje, wat houd ik van mijn leven. En ik kijk er naar uit om nog twee of drie of misschien wel tien jaar te spenderen aan het uitzoeken hoe het eruit moet zien. Sterker nog, eigenlijk vind ik het wel prima als ik daar nooit helemaal achter kom. Want eigenlijk zijn de onverwachte dingen de beste dingen die het leven te bieden heeft.

I can’t believe I’m already saying this, but I guess it really is true: last week, it was exactly one year ago that I graduated art school. Back then, I had BIG plans for myself (and I still do) and I had planned that I would have my career up and running by now. Well, part of that worked out really well, and part of it didn’t. Because what I’ve learned most over the past year is that time and patience are the most important things there are and unfortunately, those are not for sale.

I thought by now I would have my life all figured out and have enough illustration-projects to make myself a living. Although I don’t have a daytime job and I do have several projects on hand, money is still tight. And don’t even get me started on the ‘figure out my life’-thing, because I haven’t. When this first year as a post-graduate started, I thought I had all the time in the world. Now that the year is over I think I might need another year to figure it all out. Or maybe two.

I never thought I would say this, but these past weeks I’ve been thinking a lot about when I was still working on my graduation projects. Back then I could not wait to be done with it; I couldn’t wait to get my career started. Looking back now, I notice that I’m getting pretty nostalgic about the whole graduation process. I miss the field trips I used to make with John to photograph things for my Adolf project. I miss going to the Textile-lab at the museum of textiles to have illustrations for my Once Upon a Thing project embroidered.

But most of all, I miss being worry-free. Don’t get me wrong; I had the biggest amount of stress during the process of graduating (I even lost severe amounts of hair due to stress, no kidding), but I was still in the safe haven called art school. I had my college fund, knew what I had to do to get my projects done, and had a whole life as an illustrator ahead of me.
But the truth is, said life can be pretty scary. It’s a life of (financial) insecurities, of not always knowing where I’m headed (although my goals are crystal clear to me) or what my future is going to look like.

But most of all it’s a life of freedom. Of doing what I love. And boy, do I love my life. And I would love spending another two, three or maybe even ten years to figure it all out. In fact, I’m even fine with it if I never figure it out at all. Because in truth, the unexpected things are the best things life has to offer.
Ik kan bijna niet geloven dat ik dit zeg maar dat maakt het niet minder waar: vorige week was het precies een jaar geleden dat ik afstudeerde van de kunstacademie. Toentertijd had ik grootse plannen voor mezelf (en die heb ik nog steeds) en ik had gepland dat ik rond deze tijd mijn carrière wel ‘up and running’ zou hebben. Nou, deels is dat gelukt en deels ook niet. Want wat ik in het afgelopen jaar vooral geleerd heb is dat tijd en geduld hele belangrijke zaken zijn in het leven en die zijn helaas niet te koop.

Wie mij al een tijdje volgt kent ze waarschijnlijk inmiddels wel; mijn lama invasies! De afgelopen jaren nam ik elke keer als ik op vakantie ging een papieren lama op een stokje mee. Waarom? Nou, om foto’s mee te maken natuurlijk. Ik houd persoonlijk niet zo van geposeerde toeristenfoto’s, maar dat wordt een heel ander verhaal als er een lama in het spel is. Dus, in plaats van mijzelf op de foto (laten) zetten naast alle toeristische attracties maak ik voor iedere vakantie een andere lama die deze klus mag klaren. En die vindt het niet erg om model te staan, want die is super fotogeniek! Mocht je werkelijkwaar geen idee hebben waar ik het over heb, dan vind je hier onder een kleine impressie van wat ik bedoel:

Those of you who have been following me for a while must be familiar with my llama invasions. For the past years, every time I go out of the country, I bring a llama-on-a-stick illustration with me. Why? Well to take pictures with of course. I’m not very into the typical ‘tourist-posing-everywhere’ kind of photography, but that becomes a whole different story when a (paper) llama is involved. So, instead of putting myself in all the tourist photo’s, I let my llama do the job. She doesn’t mind at all; she LOVES to have her picture taken. Haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about? Zoals je afgelopen maandag misschien al wel gelezen hebt was ik dit weekend op het ‘Best kept Secret‘ festival. Ik vind dit een behoorlijk bijzonder festival vanwege de muziek line-up (net even wat anders dan anders), maar wat dit festival naar mijn idee echt bijzonder maakt is de voedsel line-up. Want op Best Kept Secret vind je geen grote cateraars of voedselketens, maar dit festival biedt de ruimte aan een heel arsenaal aan kleine ‘food-trucks’. Elk van deze food-trucks wordt gerund door kleine ondernemers die een passie hebben voor eten en, dat kan niemand ontkennen, super gave trucks waar vanuit ze dat (fantastische) voedsel serveren.

As you may have read last monday, I spent my weekend at the ‘Best kept Secret‘ festival. I think this festival is rather special, because of it’s music line-up (a little out of the ordinary), but what makes this festival the best one in The Netherlands if you ask me is the food line-up! Because at Best Kept Secret, you don’t find big catering-chains: this festival offers loads of small foodtrucks. Each and every single one of those foodtrucks is run by small entrepreneurs with a passion for food and, there’s no denying it, awesome trucks to serve it from.

Ik moet eerlijk toegeven dat ik al een tijdje de droom heb om ook een oude truck aan te schaffen en op te lappen, een kleine onderneming in voedsel te beginnen (er liggen daarvoor al genoeg ideeën en concepten op de plank; het creatieve brein is niet te stoppen) en tijdens het festivalseizoen ‘on tour’ te gaan. Echter zijn deze trucks (en het ‘ombouwen’ ervan) heel duur (tenzij je zelf monteur bent of heel veel monteur-vrienden hebt) en op dit moment zou het teveel tijd vreten (ha, ha) van mijn carriere als illustrator. Maar hey; dromen kan altijd, toch?

I must admit that it’s been a dream of mine for a few years now to buy an old truck and start a small food enterprise with which I will be touring during festival season (lots of concepts and ideas in my head are ready to be executed, I guess the creative mind never rests). However, trucks like these are very expensive (unless you’re a mechanic or have loads of mechanic friends that can help you out) and right now, it would take too much time away from my illustration-career. But hey; one can always dream, right?

Anyway. Met deze blogpost wil ik een kleine toast uitbrengen op een paar (er waren er nog veel meer!) van de leukste foodtrucks van Best Kept Secret.

Hopelijk verveel ik jullie niet met al mijn roadtrip-voorpret-artikelen, maar het is lastig om mijn enthousiasme in toom te houden aangezien de vertrekdatum steeds dichterbij komt. Nu het nog maar een paar weken duurt voor we in het vliegtuig zitten wordt het voor mij langzaamaan tijd om eens na te denken wat ik daar in mijn rugzak wil hebben zitten. Dus hier is een shop-stop met simpele noodzakelijkheden, must haves en dingen die gewoon te leuk zijn om niet mee te nemen.

I hope I’m not boring you with all of my roadtrip-anticipation posts, but it’s hard for me to keep my excitement to a managable level, since departure is only a few weeks away now. With our vacation creeping closer, it’s time for me to start thinking about what to put in my daypack. So here’s a shop-stop with bare necessities, must-haves and things that are just plain cute.

Ik deed een dagje Efteling met mijn lief.
I spent a day in The Netherlands’ best theme park.

 

Duifjes voeren is daar een traditie voor mij en John.
Feeding pigeons is a tradition of ours in this theme park.

 

Het marktseizoen is in volle gang dus het was tijd om mijn beursjes-voorraad aan te vullen.
Market season is in full swing so it was time to refill my clutch-stock.

 

Ik maakte broches.
I made some brooches.

 

En ik trof de nodige voorbereidingen voor onze roadtrip; ik trakteerde mezelf op een nieuwe zonnebril.
And took the necessary precautions for our roadtrip; bought myself new sunnies.

 

Ik moest hard aan de bak voor ‘het grote project’.
I had some serious work to do for ‘the big project’.

 

Ik kreeg een hoop verjaardagskaartjes.
I received a lot of birthday snail mail.

 

Over marktseizoen gesproken; ik had een kraam op de Swan Market in Antwerpen.
Speaking of market season; I had a stall at the Swan Market in Antwerp.

 

En dit was het uitzicht vanuit mijn kraam. Niet slecht, toch?
And this was the view from my stall. Not bad, ey?

 

Ik kocht deze gekke paarse harige plant in een kitscherige vogel-pot. Dit is nu mijn nieuwe schatje.
I bought myself this awkward purple hairy plant in a cheesy bird-planter. This is my new baby now.

 

Nog een markt, maar deze keer in de Grote Kerk in Breda.
Another market, but this time in a big church in Breda (The Netherlands).

 

Het nuttige met het aangename gecombineerd; op een terrasje genieten van een hapje en een drankje terwijl ik blogposts schrijf.

Ik ging met paps naar een pianoconcert (de Canto Ostinato van Simeon ten Holt). En ja, je ziet het goed; het was deels een ligconcert!
Went to a piano concert with my dad (the ‘Canto Ostinato’ by Simeon ten Holt). And yes, you see that right; part of the guests enjoyed the concert while lying down.

 

En tot slot: ik heb een heeeeeele lange dag gefilmd voor ‘het grote project’. Daarover later meer.
And last but not least; I did a looooooong day of filming for ‘the big project’. More on that later.

 

Onze ‘beste-vakantie-ooit‘ komt steeds dichterbij. Voor we het weten zijn we de laatste dingetjes aan het afronden en onze koffers aan het inpakken. Het plannen van een trip als deze is geen kattenpis en ik moet toegeven dat John het gros van het planwerk heeft gedaan omdat ik niet zo houd van uitzoeken en plannen. Maar er zijn nog (een paar kleine) open plekjes in ons schema. En daar heb ik jullie bij nodig. Als je tips hebt voor ‘must-see’ plekjes, goede koffiezaakjes, rommelmarkten of andere dingen die we simpelweg niet mogen missen in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Las Vegas of Los Angeles, laat ze dan achter in de comments. Our best-vacation-ever is really closing in on us now. Before we know it, it will be time to get the last things done and pack up our suitcases and such. Planning a trip like this is a lot of work (and I must say John has done most of it, because I’m not very much into planning these sorts of things), but there’s still open spaces in our schedule. That’s what I need your help with.
